To add a custom domain to your Blogger blog, follow these steps:
- Purchase a Domain: You need to own a custom
domain name. You can purchase one from domain registrars like GoDaddy,
Namecheap, Google Domains, etc. Ensure that you have access to manage DNS settings
for the domain.
- Access Blogger Settings:
- Go to www.blogger.com and sign in with your Google
account.
- Select the blog you want to
add the custom domain to (if you have multiple blogs).
- Navigate to Settings:
- In the left menu, click on
"Settings".
- Then click on
"Basic".
- Set up a Third-Party Domain:
- Look for the
"Publishing" section.
- Under "Third-party domain
settings", click on "Set up a third-party URL for your
blog".
- Enter your Custom Domain:
- Enter your custom domain name
in the provided field (e.g., https://www.twenty2four.com
(replace with your domain)
- Save Changes:
- Click on "Save".
- Error Message and Verification:
- Blogger will show an error
message along with two CNAME records. These are required to verify
ownership of your domain.
- DNS Configuration:
- Log in to your domain
registrar's website where you purchased the domain.
- Navigate to the DNS settings
or domain management section.
- Add the two CNAME records
provided by Blogger. These records typically look like:
- Name/Host/Alias: www
- Value/Points to:
ghs.google.com
- Name/Host/Alias: [random
string]
- Value/Points to: [random
string].gv.googlehosted.com
- Save Changes:
- Save the changes to your DNS
settings.
- Return to Blogger:
- After saving the DNS changes,
return to the Blogger settings where you entered your custom domain.
- Enable the Custom Domain:
- Check the box next to
"Redirect [yourdomain.com] to https://www.twenty2four.com (Replace with your actual
domain).
- Click on "Save".
- Verify Domain Ownership:
- After saving, click on the
link to complete the process and verify domain ownership.
- Wait for Propagation:
- It may take some time (usually
a few hours to 48 hours) for DNS changes to propagate across the
internet.
Once thechanges have propagated, your Blogger blog should be accessible using yourcustom domain name. Visitors will be directed to your blog with the custom
domain, and your blogspot.com domain will redirect to the custom domain
automatically.
